History of Pinckney Bend

Many years ago, there was no Pinckney Bend because the Missouri River did not bend here. There was, however, the small town of Pinckney, which stood to the west of our bed & breakfast location, but on the north side of the river at that time. Pinckney was a post town and the seat of justice of Montgomery County, surrounded by fertile countryside.

A major flood in spring of 1824 resulted in change in the course of the Missouri River, and the thriving town of Pinckney was washed away.

Now, however, this beautiful bend in the Missouri River offers magnificent views for you to enjoy from the Pinckney Bend Bed & Breakfast, as we are located atop the bluff right at the very bend in the river.
